L'influence du Baroque en Espagne dans les années 1920 et 1930 a souvent été débattue sans que soit entreprise une étude sur l'écriture d'avant-garde définie ici dans une fourchette chronologique large et comprise comme un ensemble de procédés stylistiques convergents. L'énumération chaotique, caractéristique du surréalisme espagnol selon Léo Spitzer, est ici revue comme étant par tie prenante d'une nouvelle forme d'iconicité verbale, c'est-à -dire de construction d'une image qui n'existe que par les mots. La deuxième par tie, Au soleil noir du sens , est consacrée à l'étude de l'oxymore dans trente recueils et deux pièces de théâtre d'Alber ti, Aleixandre, Cernuda, Diego, GarcÃa Lorca, Guillén, Hernández et Salinas. L'originalité de ce travail réside dans la figure étudiée -qui n'a pas encore fait l'objet d'une monographie étayée sur des centaines d'exemples-, et dans l'approche d'une histoire littéraire comparée des formes, préconisée dans ce livre.
