Une épopée tardive dans l'histoire coloniale algérienne, à contre-courant de ce qu'elle s'était promis à 5 ans, à la suite de sa première expérience raciste: devenir invisible. La force qu'il lui a fallu pour gommer son identité de fille d'immigrés, elle l'a mise, à travers l'histoire de sa famille, des Algériens en général, au service de l'appropriation de ses racines algériennes, poussée rationnellement par sa formation d'historienne et émotionnellement par un devoir de mémoire.
