This work examines the revitalization of the elegy by two contemporary poets, Andre Chenier and Friedrich Holderlin, both of whom make use of the template provided by ancient-predominantly Greek-poets. We compare the two approaches, which each lead to original forms of writing, though born of a common inspiration.
