Set on the streets of Pigalle in the nineteen fifties, an enchanting, picturesque novel, whose rambunctious teen-age heroine is guaranteed to make you laugh and cry. Simone, an intrepid, spirited adolescent, has a gift of seeing into the future. When a serial killer swears he will murder all the prostitutes of Pigalle, Simone decides to lead her own investigation, parallel to that of the police. Neither her mother, a professional soothsayer, nor her usually unemployed musician father take her seriously. But with the help of her friends, the freaks of a near-by fair, a few close buddies and her elder brother - just back from Algeria - Simone discovers the assassin's identity and is saved in extremis from his scalpel.
The adolescent's close scrape with death leaves its mark, but with the affection of friends, the love of her boyfriend and a few sessions of hypnotism, Simone's sleepless nights -and her visions of the future- are a thing of the past.
Dancer, actress and dance-hall choreographer, Christine Haydar published her successful first novel Simone in 1999.
