Où est l'Église orthodoxe de France ?
Né de la prière et de la gêne d'un père diacre servant en France, cet ouvrage ose rouvrir un dossier que l'on préfère souvent laisser fermé la France est-elle seulement un terrain de mission pour des Églises de diaspora, ou bien une terre appelée à redevenir Église locale, avec ses saints, sa liturgie, son épiscopat, sa responsabilité propre devant Dieu ?
En trois grands mouvements, le livre:
Rappelle les sources oubliées: les saints des Gaules (Irénée, Martin, Denis, Germain, Geneviève...) comme matrice d'une Église locale pleinement insérée dans l'Église indivise;
Relit avec lucidité l'histoire qui a peu à peu coupé la France de ses racines orthodoxes, jusqu'à faire percevoir l'Orient comme étranger et l'orthodoxie comme importée;
Discernne les chemins possibles d'une Église orthodoxe de France: langue liturgique assumée, épiscopat responsable de ce peuple, synodalité réelle, liberté vis-à -vis des puissances politiques, communion recherchée avec l'orthodoxie universelle.
Le Patriarcat Orthodoxe des Nations y apparaît comme un des lieux où cette intuition est déjà vécue - choix stable du français, conscience d'une vocation d'Église de France, présence sur plusieurs continents, enracinement particulièrement visible en Afrique -, sans que ce livre se réduise pour autant à un tract d'appareil. Il se présente comme un discernement exposé devant Dieu, offert à la conscience des fidèles, des clercs et des évêques.
Ni pamphlet anti-romain, ni manifeste nationaliste, ce texte est un appel:
que l'unique Église du Christ se laisse reconnaître, ici, sur cette terre, dans une orthodoxie de France à la fois pleinement patristique, vraiment locale, et intérieurement libre.

Père Johan Storm est père diacre du Patriarcat Orthodoxe des Nations. Belge d'origine, installé en France, il sert de petites communautés, accompagne les malades, les endeuillés et les pauvres, et porte dans la prière la naissance d'une Église orthodoxe de France enracinée dans ses saints et fidèle à la Tradition des Pères.
