Ce livre est orienté vers l'eschatologie juive et le messianisme. L'idée d'un sauveur que le peuple hébreu attendait, et où il y a eu un grand nombre de débats, surtout depuis l'apparition de la figure de Yeshua (Jésus), car ce sont les chrétiens qui ont majoritairement déclaré qu'il était le Messie. Les Juifs n'ont pas reconnu Yeshua comme le Messie parce qu'il ne correspondait pas au profil qu'ils attendaient et parce qu'ils prétendaient qu'il ne remplissait pas les caractéristiques prophétisées. Les Juifs religieux craignaient que la proclamation de Yeshua comme roi des Juifs ne provoque un conflit avec les Romains, mais cela se produisit plus tard également, lorsque Shimon bar Koba fut nommé Messie par le Sanhédrin trois décennies après la crucifixion de Yeshua. L'unité du peuple pour la libération a motivé les Zélotes dans une guerre fatidique contre les Romains, qui s'est terminée par l'expulsion des Juifs de leur terre.
Le roi David a dit qu'un de ses fils viendrait qui serait le sauveur (le messie), la main droite de Jéhovah. Au début, le concept de fils était interprété littéralement, et non comme un futur successeur, et son héritier, Salomon, pensait qu'il était ce Messie.
Les érudits juifs recherchent des indices sur ce Messie, qui doit également restaurer Israël en réunissant les tribus perdues. Et cette recherche se fait dans les personnages publics, dans les Écritures, même dans leurs codes. Ils passent en revue les opinions antérieures des midrashim du Talmud. Ils trouvent deux figures importantes: le Grand Messie et le Petit Messie. Le plus jeune est appelé Messie, fils de Joseph, et l'aîné est appelé Messie, fils de David . Certains ont émis l'hypothèse qu'il ne s'agit pas de deux, mais d'une seule et même chose, représentant deux caractéristiques du même être.
Un autre aspect qui ne semble pas avoir été présent dans l'idée du Messie parmi les Juifs même à l'époque des apôtres, était celui d'un successeur du prêtre Aaron, le frère aîné de Moïse, de la tribu de Lévi. Il était le seul autorisé à entrer dans le Saint des Saints, et il était l'autorité représentative de Jéhovah, l'homme le plus proche de Dieu . L'épouse de Ner (le frère de Noé) eut un fils dont naquit l'ordre sacerdotal appelé Melki-Tzedek (Rois de Justice). Ce grand prêtre de l'ordre Melki-Tzedek devait également se manifester.
À la fin de la Genèse, le patriarche Jacob annonce que quelqu'un de grand viendrait comme Messager et Pacificateur, avec qui le pouvoir de la tribu de Juda disparaîtrait et qui supprimerait le pouvoir des 613 ordonnances que Moïse imposerait. Les paroles des grands et des petits prophètes d'Israël mentionnaient également la venue d'un prédicateur qui unirait les gens, enseignerait l'amour, prendrait soin des éléments indésirables de la société et accomplirait de grandes choses sans avoir recours à la force.
Nous analysons toutes les références relatives aux caractéristiques permettant d'identifier ce Messie, depuis le lieu, le temps et les conditions qui devaient être remplies pour son apparition, et comment cette apparition se déroulerait, ses lignes directrices et sa fin, à la lumière de la littérature hébraïque, et à la fois du canon du Tanak et du Talmud et de la Kabbale.
