Mémoires, ou, Essais sur la musique, Volume 2, by André Ernest Modeste Grétry, offers a fascinating glimpse into the musical world of the late 18th century. This volume continues Grétry's reflections on music, exploring its theory, practice, and emotional impact. As a prominent composer of opera and other vocal works, Grétry brings a wealth of experience to his observations, offering insights into the aesthetic and social dimensions of music during the Enlightenment.
These essays provide valuable historical context for understanding the evolution of musical taste and the development of operatic conventions. Grétry's personal anecdotes and critical analyses make this a compelling read for anyone interested in the history of music and the cultural life of 18th-century France.
