Lettre Instructive D'un Theologien Romain Sur La Nouvelle Devotion Au Sacre Coeur De Jesus, authored by J. Barthélemy de La Porte, offers a fascinating glimpse into 18th-century religious thought and practice. Specifically, this work delves into the emerging devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Addressed to a female relative who is a nun, the letter provides instruction and guidance on this relatively new form of piety within the Catholic Church. The text provides insights into the theological debates surrounding the Sacred Heart and its acceptance within the broader religious context of the time. This historical document is invaluable for scholars and readers interested in Catholic history, French religious movements, and the evolution of devotional practices.
