Les Provinciales, by Blaise Pascal, is a seminal work of French literature and philosophy. Originally published in 1656-1657, these eighteen letters, written under the pseudonym Louis de Montalte, fiercely defend the Jansenist Antoine Arnauld against attacks by the Jesuits within the Sorbonne.
