Le Livre de Jashar est l'un de ces livres anciens qui existe encore aujourd'hui. Il est cité dans Josué 10:13, 2 Samuel 1:18, et 2 Timothée 3:8. Ce volume contient les 91 chapitres complets, ainsi qu'une analyse détaillée de certains points qui pourraient sembler en désaccord; des récits historiques avec des références croisées, et des tableaux détaillés pour faciliter la lecture de ce livre.
C'est un livre d'origine Hébraïque historique mentionné à plusieurs reprises dans l'Ancien Testament, et comme les 7 premiers livres du canon, l'Ancien Livre de Jashar raconte ces histoires de manière élargie et détaillée: la création de l'homme, comment Esaü est-il mort ? Ainsi, le Livre de Jashar répond à de nombreuses autres questions et raconte des histoires courtes dont la Bible ne donne pas beaucoup de détails. Ou encore des histoires qui ne figurent pas dans la Bible, mais auxquelles certains passages dans la Bible font allusion. À la fin, des notes sont présentées dans une brève description de ce livre. Certaines Bibles incluent le Livre de Jashar, comme la Bible Vulgate latine, la Bible à partir de la FIRST CHURCH OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST située à Philadelphia, PA. Bien que l'Église Catholique ait retiré ce livre du canon Biblique à un moment donné.
