Jean Prouvé (1901-1984) ist einer der au ergewöhnlichsten Ingenieure des 20. Jhs. Seine Konstruktionen und Erfindungen in den Bereichen der industriellen Fertigung, Vorfabrikation oder Anwendungen neuer Materialien wie Aluminium und Wellblech sowie seine Design-Entwürfe üben heute noch auf viele Architekten und Ingenieure einen bedeutenden Einfluss aus. Der vierte Band des Gesamtwerkes beschäftigt sich mit Prouvés Schaffensperiode von 1954 bis 1984. In diesem Zeitraum werden wichtige Projekte realisiert: u.a. die Messehallen in Grenoble Alpexpo, Tankstellen für Total, die Trinkhalle in Evian, Vorhangfassaden z.B. für die Freie Universität in Berlin, für die medizinische Fakultät der Erasmus Universität in Rotterdam sowie sein letztes Werk, der Radarturm in Ouessant. Insgesamt entwickelte und realisierte die Equipe Prouvé während dieser Zeit etwa 200 Projekte. Zwischen1957 und 1970 hatte Prouvé au erdem eine Professur am Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers in Paris inne.
