On y élevait le canard et l'agneau mais, pour certains, le boeuf était une nourriture digne des plus riches, et on en faisait venir d'ARGENTINE, de l'autre côté de l'océan.
Mais le long, très long voyage des pauvres animaux, en avait laissé un grand nombre avec des blessures, des cicatrices, des coups de corne et de bâton, et ils étaient abandonnés dans les parcs à bestiaux, où bien souvent, ils étaient oubliés, sans eau, ni nourriture.
Un des chauffeurs de ces horribles transports avait découvert sur l'île d'ALBION, une race de chiens, descendants de croisements entre des BULLDOGS anglais et une espèce de LEVRIERS, qu'on faisait combattre contre les taureaux blessés par le voyage en bateau, l'embarquement et le débarquement.
L'argent qu'on perdait en vendant des bêtes moins belles pour les bouchers, on le récupérait sur les paris que l'on faisait sur les combats.
Les marins, les chauffeurs et même les bouchers ne pouvaient résister au jeu, même au prix de la vie d'un chien ou d'un taureau.
