Histoire Véritable Et Complète De De Chodruc-Duclos recounts the life of De Chodruc-Duclos, nicknamed L'homme aux haillons et à la longue barbe (the man in rags with the long beard), a prominent figure of the Palais-Royal in 18th-century France. This biography, written by Luc Marc Roch Jovial, provides a detailed account of this Diogenes-like character.
The narrative delves into the social context of the time, offering a glimpse into the daily life and eccentric personalities that populated the Palais-Royal. Included is a Complainte sur ce Diogène moderne, a lament or ballad reflecting on his life and times. This historical account provides valuable insights into the social and cultural landscape of pre-revolutionary France.
