La Double Épreuve, Ou Colinette À La Cour is a lyric comedy in three acts by Jean-Baptiste Lourdet De Santerre, with music by André Ernest Modeste Grétry. This work represents a significant contribution to the French operatic tradition. Set in a courtly environment, the story unfolds with engaging characters and intricate plot twists typical of the period. The libretto, combined with Grétry's score, creates a delightful theatrical experience that reflects the artistic and cultural tastes of 18th-century France.
This edition offers readers and scholars access to a notable example of French comic opera, showcasing the collaboration between writer and composer in creating a complete and compelling work of art. The opera's enduring appeal lies in its charming melodies, witty dialogue, and insightful portrayal of human relationships within the context of court society.
