De Jacob Peletarii Cenomanensis Arte Poetica, 1555 is a significant work of French Renaissance literary theory. Written by Jacques Peletier du Mans, a prominent humanist, mathematician, and poet, this treatise offers insights into the art of poetry during a period of intense intellectual and artistic ferment. This edition, edited by H. Chamard, makes Peletier's important contribution accessible to scholars and students interested in understanding the development of poetic theory in 16th-century France.
Peletier's Arte Poetica explores themes such as the nature of poetic inspiration, the rules governing verse composition, and the relationship between poetry and music. His work reflects the influence of classical models while also advocating for innovation and the use of the French language in poetry. This edition provides valuable context for understanding Peletier's place in the literary landscape of his time and his lasting impact on French literary tradition.
