Le Crépuscule des Prophètes
- Dihya et le Serment des Aurès est un roman historique qui restitue, à travers la fiction narrative, l'une des périodes les plus décisives de l'histoire du Maghreb: la conquête omeyyade de l'Afrique du Nord à la fin du VIIe siècle de l'ère commune.
Au centre du récit se trouve Dihya, connue sous le nom de Kahena - mot arabe signifiant la Devineresse -, reine et cheffe militaire de la confédération des tribus Djeraoua de l'Aurès. Figure attestée par les grandes chroniques médiévales, notamment le Kitab al-Ibar d'Ibn Khaldoun et le Al-Kamil fi al-Tarikh d'Ibn al-Athir, Dihya dirigea la résistance berbère contre les forces du général Hassan Ibn al-Nu'man entre approximativement 688 et 703 de l'ère commune. Elle est aujourd'hui considérée comme l'un des symboles fondateurs de l'identité amazighe.
Le roman s'attache à reconstituer avec fidélité le contexte historique, géographique et culturel de cette époque charnière: organisation tribale des peuples berbères, tensions entre sédentaires et nomades, coexistence des traditions animistes, chrétiennes et de l'islam naissant, ainsi que les dynamiques militaires et diplomatiques de l'expansion omeyyade en Occident.
