Chronique de Josué le Stylite écrite vers l'an 515... offers a unique and valuable insight into the tumultuous events of the late 5th and early 6th centuries in the Middle East. Written in Syriac by Joshua the Stylite, this chronicle provides a firsthand account of the social, political, and religious upheavals of the period. Focusing on the region around Edessa, the chronicle details wars, famines, and the complex interactions between the Byzantine Empire, Persia, and various local populations.
Joshua's narrative is notable for its vivid descriptions and its perspective from within the Syriac Christian community. This edition makes this important historical document accessible to French-speaking audiences, offering invaluable primary source material for scholars and anyone interested in the history of the ancient world and the early Church. The chronicle remains a vital resource for understanding a critical period in Middle Eastern history.
