Bonaparte, lieutenant d'artillerie; ou, 1789 et 1800 is a historical comedy in two acts, interspersed with songs, written by Saint-Laurent, Duvert, and Xavier. Set during the tumultuous years of the French Revolution and the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte, the play offers a lighthearted yet insightful glimpse into the life and times of a young Bonaparte as an artillery lieutenant.
Published in 1829, this work provides a fascinating window into early 19th-century French theater and its engagement with recent historical events. The play blends humor and historical context, making it a valuable resource for students and enthusiasts of French history, theater, and the Napoleonic era. Its enduring appeal lies in its ability to entertain while shedding light on pivotal moments in European history.
