The famous painter of skies, has vanished without traces. Investigating the disappearance his friend, the poet Louis Ucello, follows a model - a mysterious woman whose image on an adverting poster fascinated Sobotkine to the point of madness. A private eye, who doubles as a musician by night, warns Louis Ucello against her, yet also falls under her spell...
Through François Emmanuel's rhythmic, musical style, characters seem to dance around the mysterious female figure whose face forever escapes them. Between the reflection on the deathly power of beauty and the critical vision of a society of spectacle, this thriller makes for an intriguing and intensely pleasurable read.
Born in Belgium in 1952, François Emmanuel is the author of several novels, including La Passion Savinsen (1998), La Question humaine (2000), La Chambre Voisine (2001), Le Sentiment du Fleuve (2003), and Le Vent dans la maison (2004).
