The very idea of world has become fragile in an age of geopolitical fragmentation, ecological crisis, and pluralist ontologies. Can the world still be conceived as a unified horizon of meaning, or must philosophy abandon this totalizing concept?
Bringing together philosophers, literary scholars, and writers, this volume examines contemporary debates on the notion of world--from critiques of metaphysical totality to pluralist ontologies that question the very existence of the world as a unified whole. Engaging thinkers from Kant and Heidegger to contemporary new realists, the contributions explore whether the concept of world should be rejected, transformed, or redefined in light of the multiplicity of cultures, forms of life, and fields of meaning.
At the intersection of ontology, ecology, and aesthetics, the book asks how a fragile yet shared world might still be thought--and possibly rebuilt--today.
***
