The Forayers: Or The Raid Of The Dog-Days is a novel by W. Gilmore Simms. It is a historical fiction set in the late 17th century in South Carolina. The story revolves around the conflict between the Native Americans and the European colonizers in the region. The protagonist of the story is a young man named Walter Grayson who is caught in the middle of this conflict. Walter is a member of a group of settlers who are attacked by a group of Native Americans known as the Forayers. The Forayers are a group of warriors who are known for their brutal attacks on European settlements. Walter is taken captive by the Forayers and is forced to live with them for several months. During this time, he learns about their way of life and their beliefs. He also falls in love with a young Native American woman named Oceola. However, Walter's loyalty is tested when he is given the opportunity to escape and return to his own people.
