Two women, generations apart, in situations they did not choose - and a God who never once announces himself, and is holding all of it.
Ruth buries a husband and walks away from everything familiar. Esther is taken into a palace she never asked for. Neither of them is rescued from the hard thing. Both of them are met inside it.
Twelve weeks for women who are tired in a way sleep doesn't fix, and for women who are fine and would still like to be known. Six weeks in Ruth, six in Esther.
No homework. Nothing to read ahead, nothing to fill in, no chapters to catch up on if you miss a week. Everything happens in the room, out loud, together. Busy women - single moms especially - quietly disappear from homework studies by week two. Take the barrier away and they stay.
Every session:
- A check-in that gets every voice in early
- The passage printed in full, one verse per line, read aloud
- Seven questions written for a living room, not a classroom
- One small practice for the week, and a written prayer
- Notes pages for what you are not ready to say out loud yet
This is not a study about learning the plot. It is about the slow work Jesus does in a woman who keeps showing up, surrounded by women who keep showing up for her. Ruth's story ends in a family line that runs all the way to him, and Esther's ends with a woman finding her voice - both of them held the whole time by a God who was never absent, only quiet.
You will not leave these twelve weeks merely knowing two Old Testament stories. The hope is that you leave believing something about yourself you may have stopped believing: that you are seen, and loved, and not left.
Scripture printed in full from the World English Bible (Updated).
Leading a group? The companion Leader Guide is sold separately. It carries all twelve sessions of this book with the leader material set alongside it.
