For Love or Crown: A Romance is a novel written by Arthur Williams Marchmont and published in 1901. The story is set in England during the 17th century and follows the life of a young woman named Lady Mary, who is torn between her love for a commoner and her duty to her family and country. Lady Mary is the daughter of a wealthy and influential nobleman and is expected to marry a man of equal status to secure her family's position and wealth. However, she falls in love with a young man named Harry, who is a commoner and works as a blacksmith. Lady Mary's father disapproves of their relationship and forbids her from seeing Harry. Despite the obstacles they face, Lady Mary and Harry continue to see each other in secret and their love grows stronger. However, when a crisis arises in the country, Lady Mary is forced to choose between her love for Harry and her loyalty to her family and country. The novel explores themes of love, duty, and sacrifice, and provides a glimpse into the social and political landscape of 17th century England. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
