For King or Country: A Story of the American Revolution is a historical fiction novel written by James Barnes and first published in 1896. The book is set during the American Revolution and follows the story of a young man named Alan Kendrick, who is torn between his loyalty to the British crown and his love for his country. The novel begins with Alan Kendrick, a young man from Boston, who is sent to England to study law. While there, he becomes friends with the son of a prominent British general and is introduced to the high society of London. However, Alan's heart remains in America, and he is conflicted when the American Revolution breaks out. As the war rages on, Alan is forced to choose between his loyalty to the British crown and his love for his country. He becomes involved in the conflict and fights alongside the American rebels, despite the risks involved. Along the way, he meets and falls in love with a young woman named Ruth, who shares his passion for freedom and independence. For King or Country is a gripping tale of love, loyalty, and courage set against the backdrop of one of the most significant events in American history. It is a story of bravery and sacrifice, and it provides a unique perspective on the American Revolution from the point of view of a young man caught between two worlds. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
