The book humorously recounts the author's 10-year 'career' as an Air Force junior officer from a reluctant Vietnam eligible draftee through a series of assignments in Oklahoma, Vietnam, Thailand, Washington D.C, Illinois, and finally Clovis, NM. The author, not a big fan of rules, regulations, and structure, quickly realized the key to surviving with any degree of sanity required the ability to see the humor and folly in most of the circumstances in which he found himself combined with a healthy degree of irreverence. This is less of a book about the military than it is about the entertainment value found in most bureaucracies. It is this perspective which is captured in this anecdotal narrative. Readers who have not been in the military will, no doubt, find humorous parallels in their own lives dealing with organizations managed by structure and rules. Those who have been in the military will likely chuckle and say, been there, done that. He hopes all will find the humor and share a hearty laugh. In the end, the author had to confront the reality of continuing his Air Force career or finding a new bureaucracy to challenge. A bit of serious soul searching and life changing events finally forces him to confront the inevitable reality that military life is not the best fit for everyone. Hopefully, the humorous irreverence helped one junior officer navigate the system and come out reasonably whole and possibly sane.
