This reference publication is essentially the after-action report of the Marines and soldiers who fought and defeated the Japanese on Guadalcanal. Published initially in 1943, this publication was commissioned by Gen. George C. Marshall, the Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army. Viewpoints and suggestions came from every level within the First Marine Division and the Army's Americal Division.
