Fighting Admiral: The Story of Dan Callaghan is a biography written by Francis X. Murphy. The book tells the story of Admiral Daniel J. Callaghan, a decorated naval officer who served in World War II. Callaghan was born in San Francisco in 1890 and joined the Navy in 1911. He rose through the ranks and became a Rear Admiral in 1941. During World War II, Callaghan was in command of the USS San Francisco, a heavy cruiser that played a crucial role in the Battle of Guadalcanal. Callaghan was killed in action during the battle, and he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery. The book provides a detailed account of Callaghan's life and career, including his early years in the Navy, his rise through the ranks, and his leadership during the Battle of Guadalcanal. It also explores the personal side of Callaghan, including his relationships with his family and fellow officers. Overall, Fighting Admiral is a compelling biography of a courageous naval officer who made a significant contribution to the Allied victory in World War II.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
