Every year, our village holds a festival on the village green - the aptly named, Dickens Heath Festival on the Green. In 2019, to celebrate the festival and the launch of JAMS, we held a small, local writing competition. We invited open-themed, creative fiction entries in three age categories: 7 to 11, 12 to 17 and adults. Dickens Heath Parish Council kindly donated the prize money for the children's competitions. Entries were anonymised and judged by us, using an objective marking system which looked at characterisation, plot, theme, setting and atmosphere, mechanics, writing quality, and passion. This anthology includes the winning entries as well as some of our own work.
