Every Starlink satellite is designed to burn up in Earth's atmosphere at the end of its five-year service life, depositing approximately 30 kilograms of aluminum oxide and other metallic compounds into the stratosphere. At full mega-constellation deployment, peer-reviewed research projects a 646 percent increase over natural background levels - compounds that catalyze ozone depletion and persist for decades before reaching the ozone layer, where they persist for decades more. In February 2026, researchers at the Leibniz Institute of Atmospheric Physics published the first direct measurement of a pollution plume from a specific rocket reentry traced to the mesosphere. This is not a projection. It is a measurement, published and growing.
Falling Back to Earth is a science-based argument addressed directly to Elon Musk - from an author who drives a Tesla, takes the vision of multi-planetary consciousness seriously, and is alarmed by the path being taken to reach it.
