Nineteen year-old Mary returns to her sleepy hometown of Honey Creek, Indiana after dropping out of college theater program in New York. While home for the summer, she attempts to re-connect with her high school friends while finding a new path for her future.
Meanwhile, her twenty-four year-old brother Tommy is in the midst of a quarter life crisis and figuring out a plan for his own future. The self-proclaimed golden boy must decide if he wants to remain in Honey Creek where things are safe and predictable or venture into uncharted waters. All the while struggling with various relationships from a secret romance to his strained familial relationships with both his father and sister.
The book switches back and forth between Mary and Tommy's point of view through a third person narrative. It follows the two siblings over the course of one summer as they attempt to understand themselves and those around them. It's primarily a slice of life novel focusing on growing up and handling two different phases of life as a young adult.
