This exceptional ten-poem chapbook, which won Brian Selkirk the 2017 NFSPS Meudt Award, travels comfortably from Greek mythology to Hinduism's Shiva, from the island of Lesbos to the Sierra wilderness, and from the surface, deep into the poet. He speaks to us variously in vocabularies of wisdom and longing and ecstasy, with smatterings of Latin, and even a title with a Korean glyph. Selkirk, a college junior at University of Arizona when he won the National Federation of State Poetry Societies award, has been a first-place winner in competitions three years running. This debut collection showcases his clearly original and distinctive voice; it's a volume to enjoy again and again.
