It's the eve of the American Revolution. Happily married for almost a year, Eliza and Captain Nate live in the major port of Edenton, North Carolina. The young couple has important decisions to make as tension reaches the boiling point in the colonies. Many colonists are fed up with the excessive British taxes and no representation in Parliament. It's a time of uncertainty for everyone.
The Sons of Liberty protest the Tea Act by dumping 342 chests of tea in Boston harbor on Dec. 16, 1773. For punishment, the British close the port in Massachusetts.
Eliza is invited to one of the first political activities by women in the American colonies. Fifty-one courageous women protest the tax on tea on Oct. 25, 1774, in Edenton, North Carolina.
The Continental Congress in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, adopts the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. It will take six and a half long years of fighting brutal battles for the Patriots to win their independence from the British. Captain Nate risks his life on the high seas to bring critical supplies on his ship to the military units and Edenton.
This easy-to-read, heartwarming novel portrays the hardships and the hopes of the colonists on a personal level during the American Revolution.
