Exploring Viola: Lesson & Theory Level 1A is a comprehensive beginner viola method that helps students learn music through hands-on exploration, creativity, and active discovery. Designed for private lessons, this engaging curriculum introduces essential viola skills while fostering confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of music.
The Exploring Strings curriculum is built on the belief that students learn best by doing. Each lesson encourages students to explore a new musical concept before introducing vocabulary and written exercises. Carefully sequenced activities help students develop the muscle memory, listening skills, and understanding needed for long-term success. This thoughtful and enjoyable approach keeps students motivated, helps them progress more quickly, and makes learning music an exciting adventure.
Level 1A is ideal for beginning violists. Students learn the fundamentals of holding the instrument and bow, reading music, developing rhythm, and building strong technique. Along the way, they explore ear training, composition, improvisation, music theory, and musical expression. By the end of the book, students will be able to confidently perform songs in D Major and A Major with solid intonation, technique, and musicianship. Students learn to listen, create, perform, and understand music through a variety of engaging activities that make practice meaningful and enjoyable.
The Lesson & Theory book serves as the core of the Exploring Strings curriculum and is designed to be used alongside the companion Practice Book and Songs for Celebrations for a complete learning experience.
