An Evocation of Light from Darkness and Dust is a short but dense collection of poetry which deals with and interrogates intensely variegated human experiences; this work encompasses the darkly morose, the playfully whimsical, and everything in between. Themes of Love and Passion permeate and inspire every poem in this collection, even the darker and more macabre poems that courageously attempt to grapple with an oppressive and persistent melancholy. The purpose of each and every poem is to imbue suffering and Passion with some significant, cogent, and redemptive meaning. This work strives to encompass the Sublime and the Beautiful while pursuing an elusive vision of the Ideal. As the work progresses, the reader will journey through a sinister and difficult Darkness into the transfiguring and transcendent power of Love and then finally experience the immaculate Light of innocence. Many of the poems also try to exalt the platonic ideal as a real and important way of loving; these poems are visions of Agape which aim to express the profundity of a Love which cannot but be sacred and spiritual.
These poems have been crafted from and refined through much intense hardship and persistent indigence, and many of my best works were ironically born out of a sense of Beauty's tragic and ubiquitous lack. My writing has strived to fill this spiritual lacuna; this sense of the absence of redemptive beauty and necessary meaning. My life has been full of tragedy and disappointment, and this book is simply an effort to find or reveal that beauty and meaning in the midst of a profound spiritual desolation. Although sometimes the intimacy of these poems renders them somewhat obscure, I sincerely hope the messages they strive to convey have the potential to resonate with many readers. I hope that this work helps to encourage an ardent love of Beauty in all of its manifold forms.
