Stone River has never been good for young women. When Evangeline Evie Nunez dies under strange circumstances, rumors swirl through the sleepy New Orleans suburb of Stone River. Was Evie's death a tragic accident, as local police insist, or was it murder? In the quiet aftermath of Evie's death, her friend Missy Douglas, a young mother new to Stone River, is desperate for answers.
As Missy tries to come to terms with Evie's death, she soon discovers that Stone River has both a sinister past filled with legends and ghost stories and an even more terrifying present filled with real-life violence against women. On her quest for answers, Missy finds herself seeking help from two more outsiders: Trenise Jones, an aging gym teacher at the local high school, and Alessandra Sanchez, a misfit high school student fresh to the area.
The trio soon finds themselves pursued from the rural swamp of Stone River to the French Quarter and back again by Alessandra's classmate, the deranged Trent Longue. Spurred on by a supernatural force that has a stranglehold on Stone River, Trent is relentless in his pursuit. Eliciting help from disparate people they encounter along the way, from a French Quarter gutter punk to a mystical healer to a reluctantly helpful cop, Missy, Alessandra, and Trenise discover they are entangled in an evil that is both past and present, real and supernatural.
To find justice for Evie and themselves, the women must fight for their lives against a force from the past hell-bent on returning to the present. Their fates and the fates of all the women in Stone River hang in the balance.
