Set in the fictional African kingdom of Emure, perched on the hill of Okeseri beside the sacred waterfall Omi Aro, Eta Oba follows inseparable sixteen-year-old identical triplets Tade, Tode, and Tide - daughters of the widowed cocoa farmer Jide, who lost their mother Detola in childbirth. Each girl has a distinct identity: Tade is the philosopher and dreamer, Tode is the practical healer and fixer, and Tide is the fierce protector. Together they are called Eta Oba (the Royal Three), an honorary title given to them at birth by the Elemure.
On their sixteenth birthday, the girls contemplate the approach of the Akowusi coming-of-age ceremony that will hold when they turn eighteen. They grapple with what it means to become women in a society that assigns limited roles to them, since they each harbor ambitions that challenge Emure's traditions. Uncertain how to prepare for womanhood without a mother to guide them, they bring their question to Eledua, the all-knowing God, at the sacred waterfall during the weekly Bathinday rites. There, in a moment of profound encounter, they receive a clear answer: a journey to the Great Library from where they time-travel into Africa's past to meet legendary queens.
What begins as a quest for professional direction evolves into a discipleship of the soul, as they realize that their strength, logic, and skill are secondary to their identity as daughters of the Great God, Eledua.
Jide, though heartbroken at the prospect of parting with his daughters, gives his blessing and sends them off with love and the revelation that their late mother Detola had foreseen this moment.
The girls travel by train to Timbuktu, where they are awed by the ancient city's grandeur and the vast Great Library. There, they find a room lined with manuscripts about powerful women throughout history. Directed by prayer, they reach for the scroll of Makeda, Queen of Sheba, and the moment Tade touches it, the parchment glows with living light, rearranges its script into Yoruba, and opens a doorway through time itself - the sacred power of Agbe, time travel granted by Eledua.
The three girls step through time and arrive in ancient Sheba, where they encounter sixteen-year-old Princess Makeda - not yet queen, but already a warrior, visionary, and force of nature. After a tense first meeting, she takes them in as palace guests. They meet Queen Ismenie, Makeda's mother, who quietly observes the girls' unusual origins but allows them to stay for the sake of her daughter.
Over several days in Sheba, the triplets receive an education they could never have found in Emure. Tide trains with Makeda and her elite female warriors, the Minos, discovering for the first time that women can be formidable fighters. Tode learns the science of poisons and antidotes from Makeda's collection, deepening her understanding of healing. Tade observes the interplay of diplomacy, statecraft, and strategic thinking as Makeda and her mother navigate suitors and ambassadors. Together they witness Makeda's sharp intelligence, her quiet plans to seek the great king she has seen in her visions, and her conviction that destiny is not received but chosen.
Before the girls leave, Makeda delivers her most important lesson: knowing your destiny does not make the path easy; it demands preparation, belief, and the courage to become yourself despite the doubts of others.
The triplets return to Emure changed. Over the next two years, the triplets grow in wisdom and in their individual identities as they journey under the watchful eyes of the Advocate into the past to meet more queens
Eta Oba - Daughters of Okeseri is a story about the courage to become yourself, the wisdom found in women's history, the bonds of sisterhood that carry girls through the journey to womanhood and the love of a Father who watches over them lovingly waiting for them to find their way home.
