An Essay On The Treatment And Conversion Of African Slaves In The British Sugar Colonies is a book written by James Ramsay in 1784. It is a detailed analysis of the treatment and conversion of African slaves in the British sugar colonies during the 18th century. The book is divided into two parts, the first of which describes the brutal and inhumane treatment of slaves, including their living conditions, punishments, and the overall cruelty of their masters. The second part of the book focuses on the efforts made by Christian missionaries to convert the slaves to Christianity, and the impact of this conversion on their lives. Ramsay argues that the conversion of slaves was crucial in improving their treatment and bringing about their eventual freedom. The book is considered an important historical document in the abolitionist movement, as it provided evidence of the horrific treatment of slaves and helped to raise awareness of the need for abolition. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
