The Epic Songs of Russia is a book written by Isabel Florence Hapgood and published in 1886. The book contains a collection of traditional Russian songs that are considered epic in nature. These songs were originally passed down orally from generation to generation and were eventually transcribed by various scholars. The book includes an introductory note by the author, which provides background information on the history of these songs and their significance in Russian culture. Hapgood also discusses the process of collecting and translating these songs, as well as the challenges she faced in preserving their original meaning and style. The songs themselves are divided into several categories, including heroic ballads, historical songs, and religious hymns. Each song is presented in its original Russian language, along with an English translation and notes on the cultural and historical context in which it was created.Overall, The Epic Songs of Russia provides a fascinating glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of Russia and its people.
