The Entered Apprentice Explained is a warm, plain-speaking companion for the newly made Freemason, written one Brother to another. It walks you through your first weeks in the Craft as it is practised under the United Grand Lodge of England, unpacking what happened to you and how to find your feet with confidence.
Inside you'll find clear, friendly guidance on:
- What Freemasonry is, and the things it is often wrongly assumed to be
- Your Initiation ceremony, explained step by step
- The Three Great Lights, the apron you were given, and what the working tools are teaching you
- The symbols of the First Degree and how to read its tracing board
- How to conduct yourself in Lodge and at the festive board
- What to wear, and how regalia works
- Visiting other Lodges, both in the UK and overseas
- The toasts and small courtesies that nobody thinks to explain
Written strictly within the First Degree, it never reaches forward into lessons you haven't yet been given, and it never discloses the signs, tokens or words entrusted to you. What it offers instead is understanding: the meaning behind the ceremony, and the practical know-how to enjoy your early days in the Lodge.
If you have a Proposer or a Personal Mentor, read it alongside them. Think of it as the knowledgeable Brother across the table you always hoped you'd find.
This is an unofficial companion, written by a Freemason for the benefit of new Brethren. It is not sanctioned by Grand Lodge, and your own Lodge's customs always take precedence.
