The Enemy's Oath: An Age-Gap Mafia Romance (Marchetti Dynasty)

Lucia Sartori built a life her father's criminal empire could not own: a Queens apartment paid for with her teacher's salary, a classroom full of eighth graders, and rules no man gets to rewrite.

Then a retired Justice Department attorney walks into her school with a sealed inventory excerpt bearing her name. Her late father left behind an unspent contingency, and someone from the old Sabatini network wants to use Lucia to bring it back to life.

Salvatore Conte is the man her father trusted to keep the old obligations intact. At forty-one, the feared Brooklyn commander is used to solving danger with men, routes, locks, and orders. Lucia is the one person he cannot protect that way.

She will accept his security only under terms she writes herself. No keys. No disappearing into a family estate. No decisions about her school, her home, or her life without her consent.

But when the threat follows her into the civilian world she fought to build, Lucia and Sal are forced closer-and the oath that has ruled his adult life begins to collide with the woman he is no longer willing to treat as anyone's inheritance.

To keep Lucia safe, Sal may have to betray the dead man who made him.

And Lucia will have to decide whether a dangerous man's devotion can become something she chooses instead of another cage.
