The End of the Battle is a novel by the renowned British author Evelyn Waugh. The book is set in England during World War II and follows the story of a man named Guy Crouchback, who is a member of an aristocratic Catholic family. Guy is trying to find a sense of purpose and meaning in his life, and he believes that joining the army and fighting for his country will give him that. However, Guy's experiences in the army are not what he expects. He is initially stationed in England, where he is tasked with training new recruits. He finds this work unfulfilling and longs to be sent to the front lines. Eventually, he is sent to North Africa, where he witnesses the horrors of war firsthand. As the war progresses, Guy becomes disillusioned with the military and begins to question the morality of the conflict. He also becomes involved in a love triangle with two women: his estranged wife Virginia and a young widow named Angela. The End of the Battle is a powerful exploration of themes such as duty, honor, and the search for meaning in a chaotic world. Waugh's writing is both elegant and incisive, and he paints a vivid portrait of England during the war years. The book is a must-read for fans of historical fiction and anyone interested in the human experience during times of war.English Soldiers On Dangerous Missions During The World War.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
