ENCOUNTERING GOD explores the nature of spiritual intimacy and the transformative power of a personal relationship with God. Drawing upon the biblical account of the disciples on the road to Emmaus, the author unpacks seven spiritual insights using a richly woven tapestry of Scripture, to examine why believers often fail to recognize God's presence in their lives and the importance of recognizing and inviting Christ into one's life. The work identifies several internal barriers to spiritual perception: Spiritual Myopia: Focusing on physical circumstances or earthly expectations can blind one to God's higher, eternal purposes. Despair and Disappointment: Grief born of unmet expectations-such as the disciples' hope for immediate political deliverance-can lead to a deader-than-dead perspective that ignores spiritual truth. Misplaced Hope: When faith is anchored in personal labor, entitlement, or self-seeking rather than in the Gift Giver, it becomes fragile and transactional. A core theme is the distinction between head knowledge (facts and physical routines) and heart knowledge (an unwavering, intimate experience of truth). The author argues that passive faith, or osmosis, is insufficient; believers must actively seek God through prayer, worship, and meditation to receive true revelation. The enemies of our faith, comfort and complacency, are met full on as the author brings us into awareness of our total dependence upon God.
