The book is the tragic story of Emenike, a boy who had difficulties virtually all his life. He lost his father, Ukadike, at the age of nine . Viciously haunted by his uncle, Okosisi, a devil - incanate, and almost suffocated by abject poverty, Emenike forged ahead with life. Courageous and highly focused, he was never deterred by challenges no matter how tough they appear. He used the vehicles of positive thinking and formal education to actualize set goals. Married to the daughter of Chief Chukwurah Chukwurah, an astute politician, and god father, Emenike, on his recommendation, was appointed senior personal adviser to the President and later Minister in the federal Cabinet, positions, the Chief believed his son - in - law merely held in trust for him. Emenike's refusal to be subjected to the whims and caprices of his father - in - law set them on a collision course which led Emenike's marriage to collapse. A torch bearer to the disadvantaged youths, Emenike died in an air crash in hjs prime.
