When Dani Lee and her step-dad move to Crescent Valley Pack, they finally feel like they're accepted and hidden away from the demons of their past. It isn't until tragedy strikes for Dani that they find themselves having to run once again.
Paul Lopez has waited years to confirm that Dani Lee is his mate. He always felt a pull towards her, but his hesitation to approach Dani has left a horrible misunderstanding, causing him to lose her as soon as he comes of age to claim her.
Mate. Ruth said suddenly in my head, breaking my focus from FaceTiming my daughter. Mate, mate. I can feel him close. Smell that? Ruth asked me and I sniffed the air.
I turned and came face-to-face with an insanely handsome, lumbering man, with long, black hair and brooding hazel eyes. His right eye held the symbol of an Alpha. His thick eyebrows were drawn down in confusion and there was a thin scar running down the side of his face.
I've seen those hazel eyes before. I dreamed of them just last night, and the night before that, and the night before that.
Paul? I breathed the name, my throat contracted at the realization of who was standing before me.
Paul? Paul Lopez was my mate? Then why?
I took a small, involuntary step back, which quickly snapped Paul's focus on the movement.
Dani? Danielle, are you okay? I hear my dad's voice from the phone still on the call in my hand.
Mama! Mama kay? I heard Eva ask too.
Paul looked down at my phone and I quickly turned it from his view and pressed the end call button, shoving it in the side pocket of my leggings.
You have a daughter? He asked, eyes boring into my own.
I started to panic. What if he took my daughter from me? What if he takes her or hurts her?
Please, don't, I whispered.
Pain flashed across his face as he looked back at me.
I wouldn't. I mean I didn't, He stuttered, Please just hear me out. He said, reaching a hand out to me. I flinched, taking another step back.
Please. His voice cracked.
