Echoes of Battle is a historical novel written by Bushrod Washington James and published in 1895. The novel is set during the American Civil War and follows the story of a young Confederate soldier named Frank Graham. The novel is divided into three parts, with each part focusing on a different stage of the war.In the first part, Frank enlists in the Confederate army and is sent to fight in the Battle of Bull Run. He witnesses the horrors of war firsthand and is forced to confront his own mortality. In the second part, Frank is captured by Union soldiers and sent to a prisoner of war camp. He experiences the brutality and inhumanity of the prison system, but also forms strong bonds with his fellow prisoners. In the final part, Frank is released from the prison camp and returns to the Confederate army. He participates in the Battle of Gettysburg and witnesses the devastating toll the war has taken on both sides.Throughout the novel, James provides a vivid and realistic portrayal of the Civil War, including the battles, the political climate, and the human toll of the conflict. The novel also explores themes of loyalty, sacrifice, and the cost of war. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
