This book teaches children lessons about acceptance and not fearing those different from themselves through a lens of traditional characters and settings that kids are familiar and engage with. While kids enjoy the colorful pages and visual humor, parents will appreciate the more complex story beneath the cover of a children's book, subtly telling a contemporary story about misinformation, fear and misunderstanding that is more relevant now than ever. The story follows a dragon who attempts to be friends with a princess and can't understand why the princess is afraid of him. After being confronted by the king and told to leave his home, the dragon searches for the reason behind the princess's fear of him. Ultimately, they attempt to reconcile their differences through mutual understanding. Dragons Don't Eat People is a compelling romp through medieval times with a fun narrator that kids will enjoy, and a story where they can begin to understand the complex world around them further than simply good and evil.
