Bukkie is a servant to the King's baker, but when she lets the fire go out she is sent to the King's prison. She discovers she shares her cell with a dragon keeper who is dying and has to decide whether or not to help the keeper. The results of her decision puts her living among the dragon keepers and dragons themselves. Her biggest problem is she is very afraid of dragons.
