'COSTANU SAU CUM S-A VĂZUT LUMEA DE LA FEREASTRA VIEȚII MELE' (COSTANU OR HOW THE WORLD APPEARED FROM THE WINDOW OF MY LIFE) is Ioan Costea's story of a childhood spent growing up in disempowered poverty in a remote valley in the Transylvanian foothills, a location literally torn in two during the Second World War and for which various geographical and geopolitical events in history have earned it its title of Valea Iadului: The Valley of Hell. This very personal account also paints a rich and detailed portrait of rural, mid-century Romanian life. This is the original Romanian language version, originally published in 2020. In 2024 an English language translation was published (under the title, 'COSTANU: Escaping from the Valley of Hell'). 'COSTANU SAU CUM S-A VĂZUT LUMEA DE LA FEREASTRA VIEȚII MELE' este povestea lui Ioan Costea despre o copilărie trăită într-o sărăcie lucie, într-o vale izolată de la poalele munților Apuseni, într-un loc literalmente sfâșiat în două în timpul celui de-al Doilea Război Mondial și care, din cauza diverselor evenimente geografice și geopolitice din istorie, și-a câștigat renumele de Valea Iadului. Această mărturie profund personală conturează, de asemenea, un portret bogat și detaliat al vieții rurale din România de la mijlocul secolului XX.
