The collection of poetry Dip into Sun's Shadow finds inspiration through aspects of Surrealism as various images are juxtaposed to associations formed through the mind. The poems attempt to create a constellation of memories that morph through the passage of time. In doing so, the author draws upon childhood and adolescent memories translated into a Surrealist perspective through illustrations.
In the first section of the book, nature encompasses an integral part of the poems, referencing flowers, the night sky, moon, stars, and the sun. These serve as relational coordinates which correspond to past experiences, emotions, and mental states. The second section focuses on the mental journey one takes when they delve into their memories, evoking a remembrance of the time that has passed. Many of the poems attempt to capture how a moment can take on dichotomies that are contradictory yet dwell in the same emotional landscape. The last section is a culmination of these memories, emotions, and associations that form various landscapes colored through imagination similar to the wonder of a child while contending with grief and loss.
Through the collection, nostalgia presents images contrary to perceived reality, creating an experience that draws upon the interior landscape of an imagined world. The author's hope is for the poems to provide a safe space for anyone seeking a reprieve from their daily lives and invites the readers to interpret the poems through their unique perspective.
