With Digging for Worldly Treasures, D. Viel explores a myriad of themes and issues - from exploring one's identity to grappling with loss and grief. This collection firmly establishes the author's ability to craft profound poetry that is capable of deeply resonating with readers, challenging their perspective on life.
When not busy immersing himself in crafting poetic symphonies, Dominick Viel enjoys immersing himself in nature, painting, and indulging his lifelong fascination with history and mythologyDescription: Digging for Wordly treasures combines the youth poetry of Dominick Viel, published for the first time, in translated English from their original French version.
Despite the darkness and despair of the author's poetry, there is a haunting beauty to it. His words are like a song of sorrow, drawing in and holding the reader captive until the final stanza. I couldn't help but be moved by the depth the texts, the way pain and suffering is expressed through a strange world filled with grieving elders, and menacing figures; or either a boogieman or even machines that mow men like a field. In these 3 small booklets, the Poet explores new structures which, like a fatality, bring each text to unexpected meanings, possibly outside of the realm of the conscious. Spread the wise word of the poet carefully and take caution while turning the pages as you may read something you won't be able to unread, therefore, be warned that some of the texts have difficult content and approach dark thematic such as Suicide, Grief, and when it is not about some dark theme, the verses may very well be about conspiracy theories or plots to buy up entire neighborhoods to build a monopoly into a dying city. Rubert Canard, Editor A word from the author: Last few months, I rediscovered my own poetry by giving it the English treatment. While reviewing all these old works, I was equally surprised as you'll be when you read it. The texts are dark and gloomy, sometimes show my inexperience in life and as a poet. More than anything, the booklets show a progression from a wild, Baudelaire infused pen, to a mature, reflective and sometimes even senile, unforgiving and all-exposing eye, which digs for it's own constructs.Enjoy !
In this book you will find a few of my finest sonnets, pantoums, and a few free verse or new style poetry, as well as a few heavily structured texts, with a unique versification that is unique to me. The French to English translation has removed a lot of the rhymes but some of them remain nonetheless even after translation. Remember to close the book if you feel to much darkness and maybe even try to pen something of your own, you won't regret it !
